E5000 study desks with new ‘soft-close’ closing mechanism at LIUC – Carlo Cattaneo University

In the classroom as in the cinema: maximum comfort with L213 seats for the first rows and bench seats with oversized padding

Incessant research and innovation applied to the products: the new E5000 – Orlandini Design study desks are equipped with a folding table with soft-close mechanism that makes its debut in the 300-plus-seat lecture hall of the LIUC – Carlo Cattaneo University in Castellanza (Varese), in the splendid campus created from a former cotton mill and designed by Aldo Rossi, the well-known architect, theorist and artist, compared to Le Corbusier as a painter-architect, and winner in 1990 of the Pritzker Prize, the Nobel Prize for architecture. Contributing to the creation of an elegant environment is the essential design of the L213 – R&D LAMM armchairs.

The refurbished Bussolati Lecture Hall is the heart of the University founded on the initiative of the Union of Industrialists of the Province of Varese and named after the Italian historian, economist and politician who was able to recognise the centrality of entrepreneurship in the Italian economic system. The 308 E5000 – Orlandini Design study desk seats are fitted with the innovative, slowed-down, shock-absorbing tilting shelf. Innovation, but also maximum attention to comfort, durability and quality of materials: the bench makes extensive use of aluminium for its structural parts, while the modularity of the system and the oversized upholstery guarantee seating comfort comparable to that of auditorium chairs.

The folding seat, with self-braking return, is removable and upholstered with cold-cured foam. An elegant grey Silvertex upholstery was chosen for the seat and backrest, while HPL 478 Light Grey laminate from ABET Laminati was chosen for the writing tabletop and the first row panels (floor-length).

The E5000 system was installed in straight rows on tiers, and the elegant L213 – R&D LAMM armchairs, chosen in a straight-sided version and equipped with a folding writing tablet, “rest” on the first row panels.

Divina armchairs for the Sup Alta campus on the Croix-Rousse hill in Lyon

In the silk industry district with its slopes listed on the Unesco heritage list, a large campus for more than 700 students is born from the collaboration of three important institutions

On the hill of the Croix-Rousse, Lyon’s silk industry district that is now a vibrant arts centre, the beautiful 19th-century buildings and the former Chartreuse du Lys-Saint-Esprit monastery have been transformed into the prestigious campus Sup Alta – Campus Sacré-Cœur des Chartreux for higher education and technical training.

Here – immersed in a wooded park on a hill overlooking the Unesco heritage peninsula designed by the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers – three major institutions: Chartreux, the Saint Louis – Saint Bruno high school and the Ircom of Angers have decided to combine values and know-how to offer high quality training in a variety of subjects, including: accounting, management, communication, digital, political science and IT.

The campus for more than 700 students was inaugurated in 2019 and was enhanced in 2024 with important features: a library, an amphitheatre, and the large 262-seat auditorium created in the evocative chapel and equipped with Divina – R&D LAMM seats installed in straight rows (54 cm of spacing): the first nine rows on a flat floor and the remaining sixteen on steps.

Essentiality, flexibility and a wide range of accessories for the seat that harmonises with the historical value of the ancient environment, chosen in the version with a supporting wooden backrest, upholstery in Trevi CS fabric, sides and armrests in an oak finish and a tip-up foldaway writing tablet. Six seats in the first row (three on each side) are installed on a special system that allows them to be removed and moved on wheels.
